Ibrahim Idrees aka Too Much

Fans of popular Takoradi movie series Junka Town woke up on Wednesday to sad reports about the lead actor Too Much who is known in real life as Ibrahim Idrees. It was alleged that the comedian have been beaten by some Frafra youth while performing on stage in Kumasi. 

The website which broke the news reported among other things that the attack took place at the time Too Much was performing one of his own song titled Mbabii, which was composed in Frafra language. The report goes on to say that some group of young men mounted the stage to slap and beat him up. 

Boga Ali Hashim, the writer continued that the song was perceived to be derogatory to Frafra people and as such the young men had forewarned Too Much not to perform that song on stage but Too Much who was adamant did not heed to the warning and went ahead to perform the song. He concluded his write-up that Too Much was in Takoradi and undergoing medical treatment from the wounds he sustained.

Cut! Let's playback!! Do you remember the popular Ghanaian legend about ace highlife musician A. B. Crentsil who was also beaten by same Frafra youth in the north for not performing Atia Special for them, another song the youth perceived as derogatory to their tribe? 

Could this just be a part two of that legend? Ah well, some will say is it your beatings? lol

Madeintaadi decided to get in touch with the man at the centre of this controversy in a telephone conversation.

When he was asked which particular line in the song might have infuriated his attackers, the Pampii man had this to say: "I am not even a Frafra and to be honest I don't even understand the Frafra language. I got to know about this particular song whiles growing up as a kid in Takoradi. The song is something we sing for fun even though we do not understand the lyrics".

When asked why he went ahead to record a song he did not understand, Too Much responded that before he came out with the song, he consulted some Frafras who interpreted to him that the song made no sense. Clearly, the first day I downloaded the song, I did not play it up to 30 secs. The only thing I heard was the phrase 'lawoni', which means "how are you?" 

The two phrases in the song which seem to have caused the controversy are 'Opabona aya' which according to Too Much means good women are now like endangered species  and 'Osibi sibi' which means cheap women. 

These are the contradictions we detected in the two accounts:

1. Location of the attack: The website which initially reported the story says Too Much was attacked whiles performing on stage. When we spoke to Too Much he says, the attack took place outside the auditorium of the club. We spoke to Eddgima who happens to be Too Much manager, he also claimed the beatings happened in front of the gate of the hotel they lodged that night. 

2. Current Location of Too Much: The website which broke the story stated that Too Much was receiving medical treatment in Takoradi. But Too Much says, "I am still in Kumasi". His manager says he does not know the whereabouts of Too Much at the moment. 

Too Much refused to mention the Police station where he claims he had made police report and the name of the hospital that treated him after the incident.
