Takoradi-based movie director, Solomon Busumtwi-sam latest movie 'Tanganyika' was premiered last Sunday at Ahenfie hotel in Takoradi.

Reactions from patrons at the event made us conclude they got value for their money.

As usual, madeintaadi was there to observe the show and this is what we had to say about the two and half hours staged show:

High Moments:

1. Picture Quality: I cannot tell the file format the movie was recorded, but the picture quality could match the level of any best Kumawood movie which comes to your mind. Even though the venue did not have the typical theatre set-up, the quality of the image spoke volumes about the movie. Could it be because the organizers used DVD player instead of a laptop player which has become the order of the day?

2. Sound: One thing our local movie industry struggle with is producing good sound in movie scenes which has a lot of cast speaking concurrently. However, in the Tanganyika movie, scenes like the time Atemuda was interacting with his classmates in school, most of the scenes at the compound house, and the mob justice scene were shot with less noise in the background. It was a major improvement in the director's previous work.

3. Acting: The director has revealed the movie was unscripted yet the acting skills of most of the actors make it unbelievable. Take for instance the lead actor Tanganyika, her choice of words, her command of the Nigerian accent. She was heard using words like: "they have since gone incommunicado". For me that does not sound like unscripted statement. Atemuda was also confident notwithstanding the "intimidating posture" of the popular actors he found himself with. The boy has a future.

4. The Suspense: Unlike most Ghanaian movies where the end is easily predictable after watching for few minutes, Tanganyika proved critics wrong. All my predictions were wrong. In fact, if it had part three I was prepared to sit in and watch even though it was past 12 midnight.

5. The cast: The movie had perfect characters for each role. Take for instance the man who was Atamuda's father. The director featured an elderly person who could speak good English and his accent was on point. Unlike most local movies, where young adults paint their hairs grey and act as parent, the story was different in Tanganyika. Landlord Homeless acted very well as a typical young landlord. Not forgetting the young Melanie who was always wearing a smile. Doreen, the dark-skinned tenant was apt for her role. One scene I cannot forget are those three guys whom Atemuda gifted with his smartphone. The scene reminded me of the day my Samsung galaxy S5 was snatched from me at the Jubilee Park.

 Low Moments:

1. Background music: It was surprising to see that all the background songs featured in the movie were foreign songs. Surprisingly, the dirty version of the songs were used. I am not sure whether the producer was afraid of GHAMRO's threat. But I think in the future it would be more enjoyable if we can hear some Made in Taadi songs playing in the background.

2. Subtitle: It would have been perfect if the editor had added subtitles to allow a wider audience patronage. I interviewed Tanganyika who revealed to me one of her parent is a Nigerian. That tells you the limitation her Naija fans will have in watching the full movie.

3. Credit: The opening and ending credits were too short. I could not notice the real name of the cast. Another thing the actors could work on is their choice of names they preferred to be called. What about using your real name rather than wishing to be called Stonebwoy or Stargurl or Atamuda?

4. Smoking and Drinking scenes: For me it was not necessary to allow Homeless smoke in the movie. As for Atamuda, judging from his age, he could have acted his elevated rich status without drinking beer. The boy is too young to be drinking beer on set with the greatest due of respect Mr Director. May be in the next episode, you should consider withdrawing that. We always have problem with Hollywood featuring African children in war movies, I believe an African kid can act rich without spending his money on alcohol.

If you are a fan of local movies, trust me Tanganyika won't be bad among your selection at the movie store. I highly recommend it to you.
